Mercedes Benz A-Class Sedan

The A-Class sedan looks really good from the outside and truthfully that's enough for most people, but as soon as you drive it, it's unfortunately a miss for me, heres why:

I recently reviewed the A200. On most days Mercedes-Benz is my fighter, especially in the entry level car, category because they get a lot right from the look, to the drive to the interior, so usually you don't feel like you're in an entry level Benz, but this baby was a little different.

The Good:

All models have active lane-keeping assist, collision warning and autonomous emergency braking, Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) which is really great and we've come accustomed to with all new Mercedes-Benz sedan models, really great high tech. specifications

A beautiful dual digital display the A-class without a raises the bar compared with many entry-luxury compact sedan competitors, a definite A+ for the interior. As you enter the drivers seat you notice the two large 10.1 inch display screens, from here you can control most of the functions using the centre pad or the buttons on the steering wheel on the car including setting up the Android Auto or Apple Car Play, From here you can also control the interior ambient lighting which has a large selection of colours to choose from. Did I mention that the sound is pretty solid and probably the best in its class, probably because the model I had came with the Burmester Sound System which makes all the difference, you’ll literally find yourself staying in the car enjoying your favourite jams even after reaching your destination.

an exceptionally good looking exterior, very close to the CLA , bit the rear is quite distinctive and you wouldn't get it mixed up from the other Mercedes-Benz sedan models

The Drive – A Miss

The Car has three different drive styles Sport, Comfort and Eco-mode. The drive is not the most comfortable even in comfort mode. The car is not the best drive in around the city or even if you go for a longish drive. My issue was that you could feel the car jerk as it changed gears. I had to make sure the car was not in sport as feeling the car pull or ‘jerk’ the front wheel is not comfortable at all, I understand that it’s an entry level sedan but it could’ve been better also because that’s one part where the ‘rival’ BMW 2 Series fares way better.

Likes

  • Things that I like is the exterior styling, it honestly doesn’t look like an entry level car and for their first try on a sedan for the A – Class it’s a good job done. The front grille, The Mags and Rear tail-lights all make for an exciting modern look that works for both men and women

  • The Interior is also impressive, the sport seats also give it that elegant feeling, the many colours to choose from mean you can change to whatever colour suits your mood.

  • Space – The car is very spacious, lots of space in the boot for all my bags and two adults can seat comfortably in the back, so yes in terms of space its perfect for a road trip, if you can get past the Jerky bits of the car.

Overall an ok car, I wouldn't personally go for it, i think other brands fare much better at the entry level space and i would rather spend the additional hundred thousands on a CLA

The A35 has launched, and i'm hoping it's better in terms of the drive! I'll definitely let you know bo dali
