I grew up with the notion that black skin doesn't need to undergo chemical peels and facials- I grew up watching my grandmother use the green sunlight bar and cuticura and my Gogo's skin still slays to say the least. But we're of a different generation and basic skincare is essential. Needless to say I was terrified as I don't have a lot of problems with my skin, but I do have some hyperpigmentation — a patch of darkened skin in the shape of a triangle on my forehead , it has started popping up on my lower chin as well. Hyperpigmentation can be caused by acne or trauma to the skin, hormones, pollution, stress, genetics, or as in my case — UV exposure. Always wear sunscreen, especially after a microdermabrasion session! now I'll be honest I was never good with sunscreen hence my current pigmentation!
So for the next month I'll be taking you through my 3 Dermalogica Bio Surface peels - it's literally 3months before my big day and well my first peel was a week before my Membeso.

21 September My first peel
A prep solution is applied first, followed by enzymes, then the acid is added in layers so there is total control every step of the way. Eventually we will be aiming to get up to five layers of acid, with each layer having five minutes to do its job.
The first layer of prep solution is put on and my therapist asks me to use a sensation scale of one to ten. She says we won't ever go over a five out of ten for these treatments. The prep layer just feels like an oil, and is a little tingly. Having done its job, the enzyme layer is added. It feels much the same. This is followed by the first layer of acid.
By the time I had reached the third layer of acid I estimated myself at a four on the sensation scale. It wasn't painful, just kind of tingling all over.
A neutraliser was applied and I was told to let the therapist know when my sensation was back down to zero. With the treatment now over, an SPF 50+ sunscreen was applied and I was invited to have a herbal tea while we spoke about my after-care plan.
The results
Literally no down time! now thats impressive!
For best results with BioSurface Peel, it is recommended to perform a series of 3-6 treatments depending on concern. Multiple series may be performed to achieve desired results. It is advisable to have BioSurface treatments in the spring, autumn and winter as this will minimise exposure to sun and decrease the risk of photosensitivity.

the first prescribed product to use is the ultra calming cleanser after a the peel An extremely gentle cleansing gel/ cream that can either be rinsed off or gently removed with tissue or The Sponge Cloth. Helps combat skin sensitivity caused by exposure to pollution, harsh climate, stress, hormonal imbalance, irritating cosmetic products and other environmental influences. Contains no artificial fragrance or colour. I'lll be sharing the different after care products with you after each treatment
